The Golden Games

~32 turns3 endings

The premise

Aria Winters, daughter of a failing count, enters the Golden Games — a two-month courtship ritual inside the Empire's most magnificent palace, competing for the hand of Emperor Linus or Duke Carlisle. But the gilded walls hide observation passages, the nobility are placing bets, and the women who lose don't go home. They disappear. As the gates stay locked and the contestants thin, Aria must decide whether to survive the game or burn it down — and whether the difference still matters once she's learned to play.

Three endings to reach — where the thread leads is yours to decide.

How it opens

The Golden Keep rises before you — white stone and gilded spires against a morning so pale it looks like bone. Your carriage has just passed through gates that will not open again for two months. Around you, nine other women in silk and velvet descend from their own carriages, each one taller, richer, more certain than a count's daughter with pink hair and borrowed shoes. A servant in grey livery bows and gestures toward the grand staircase. Above, on a balcony wreathed in light, stands Emperor Linus himself — soft blonde hair, ocean-blue eyes, a smile so gentle it aches. …
